Simple Kindness for Kids

With stark global statistics indicating that over 80 percent of the population lives on less than $10 a day, it’s not surprising that millions of children miss out on important parts of their childhood every year, according to children’s rights and emergency relief organization UNICEF.

Seeing all of the devastating effects that poverty can cause in young person’s life, Random Acts Regional Representative Anna Dementeva (Russia) decided to take matters into her own hands last fall by collecting donations of toys, dolls, and stuffed animals to distribute in an attempt to spread a little bit of cheer and sunshine to the youngest in her corner of the world. She was even able to get her mother involved.

“I hope we were able to give some of these children a smile,” she wrote, speaking of the underprivileged children of Krasnodar, who received the wonderful gifts.

You can follow Anna’s lead by reaching out to local children’s centers and hospitals in your neighborhood or by finding out how to help impoverished and underprivileged youth at relief sites like UNICEF or the UN Refugee Agency (for a more global focus).
