“We’re a steampunk airship crew and we want to make a difference in people’s lives,” wrote Random Acts supporter Christina Bourque. It’s not a phrase that you’d normally stumble across in your day-to-day routine, but it’s definitely impressive. Back in July of last year, Christina and her fellow steampunk crew began raising money to purchase a very special present for a little boy in their neighborhood. 12-year-old Blaze suffered from cerebral palsy and epilepsy, which meant that he was unable to ride a bicycle like the other kids his age, given his balance issues and other health concerns.
After getting in touch with Blaze’s mother to find a specially built bicycle that would suit his needs, Christina and her crew contacted us to help them reach their final financial goals. With their fundraising total and monetary sponsorship from Random Acts, the group set out to make their treasured purchase. After “steaming-up” the bike in decorative fashion, the friends headed over to present their gift.
“Blaze was beyond excited and so very happy,” Christina wrote later, after her crew had dropped off the bike at the family’s home. “It was a complete surprise for him!”
