We were awed by the amazing efforts you made to help us collect non-perishable donations at DallasCon this past weekend — so much so that we’re already itching to jump into the Impala and head up to Canada for the next wave of kindness.
As you’ve guessed already, Random Acts will be in attendance at Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Supernatural, Toronto from Saturday, October 11th to Sunday October 12th. As we so often do, we will be partnering with a local nonprofit and challenging all of you to #GetKind. This time around, our partnered charity will be the Daily Bread Food Bank, a local organization which serves thousands of people across Toronto every year through meal programs in over 170 member agencies. In addition to their food bank efforts, Daily Bread clients are also offered advocacy support in “resolving issues that may accompany hunger, such as access to social benefits, housing, immigration, and employment” [Daily Bread, 2014].
During the month of September, Daily Bread requested canned fish items from its supporters, noting that the much-needed food item serves as an excellent source of protein, vitamins, and energy, and as October rolls around they will be unveiling a brand new request. Of course, there’s no harm in continuing the trend of “Fighting Hunger with Fish”. But if you’re looking to change things up, here are a few other items of which they are most in need:
Any additional non-perishable food items not listed will also be accepted. Donations may be brought to the Random Acts table throughout vendor room hours.
We can’t wait to see your smiling faces! Check our social media channels for any additional updates and information as the convention draws near — you can also follow our Toronto Con representatives, Tammy and Charlotte, on Twitter @RARepCanadaEast for further kindness challenges and added convention hijinks.
As always, make sure to tag any photos or videos you post on social media that weekend with the hashtags #TorCon, #GetKind, or #RandomActs so that we can check out all of your hard work and spread the word to our supporters for inspiration.
We’ll see you then!
(If you’re unable to bring along an item or can’t make it to the convention, you can still help! To leave a monetary gift or to organize a drive of your own, check out http://www.dailybread.ca/ or send an email their way at email@example.com.)
**Random Acts will be collecting items starting the morning of Saturday 10/11/14 through Sunday 10/12/14.**
