Random Acts is headed to Creation Entertainment’s Official Supernatural Convention in Pasadena, California (#PasCon) and we’re hoping to see you there! From November 14-15, staffers Suzie S., Chris, and Kae will be present in the #PasCon vendors room to host a bevy of fun activities and collect items for a local nonprofit — and as the holiday season is rapidly approaching, we’ve decided to start preparing accordingly by partnering with the Downtown Women’s Center of Los Angeles.
What Is The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC)?
Founded in 1978, the DWC provides housing assistance and critical support to homeless women in the Los Angeles region. The DWC offers its residents regular home-cooked meals, clothing, referral services, and a day center that’s open to the public. The staff of the DWC also works closely with female veterans and their families to provide assistance with case management, federal housing vouchers, and supportive services. In addition to offering regular shelter services, the DWC also holds daily educational courses in computer skills, literacy and math, academic and vocational counseling sessions, and job readiness preparation, and trains residents for re-employment.
How Can I Help The DWC At #PasCon?
Throughout #PasCon weekend, we’ll be collecting the following much-needed items, as requested by the DWC for the upcoming holiday season and the cooler winter months:
- Adult Diapers
- Large and Extra Large Pants
- Orthopedic Shoes
The DWC has also assembled a holiday wish list:
Our staffers will also be running a number of fun activities and giveaways throughout the weekend, so if you aren’t able to bring along a donation (or two… or three), don’t sweat it! There will be plenty of opportunities to #GetKind regardless.
I Can’t Go! Can I Still Help?
Yes! The DWC accepts donations online throughout the year; If you live in the Los Angeles area, the DWC has also compiled a general wishlist that you can refer to if you’d like to drop items off in person. If you live out of the area, we encourage you to find an organization or shelter in your own community and find out how you can lend a hand — don’t forget to tag us in your photos and videos (@randomactsorg / #randomacts) so that we can see all the amazing ways you’re spreading kindness in your corner of the globe.
Let’s get ready to #GetKind and have a fantastic convention weekend together! We’ll see you all soon!
