A few weeks ago, the Random Acts staff learned that one of its longtime supporters had passed away suddenly while attending a Supernatural convention at which we were in attendance. Megan Mueller, 31, had been spending the weekend enjoying the Chicago convention with friends and helping spread a little kindness when she was tragically taken from those who loved her most. As a group, the Supernatural family responded with waves of support for her family, organizing efforts to donate to a Kentucky animal shelter as requested by her parents. It was that enormous act of kindness that inspired us to organize our own gift for Megan in the days that followed.
After finding out which items the Kenton County Animal Shelter needed most, Random Acts was able to purchase 20 animal beds for the dogs and cats in its care, as well as a memorial brick in Megan’s name. Although no amount of material goods will ever be enough to make up for her loss, the importance of this small gesture was not lost on us.
For many in the Supernatural family, which has welcomed us so warmly over the past five years, Megan’s passing dealt a heavy blow. Certainly, for those of us lucky enough to meet Megan in person, her kind heart and her gentle manner left an indelible impression. From donating to the Heartland Animal Shelter over #ChiCon weekend to participating in a number of Random Acts challenges, including Endure4Kindness, AMOK, and Caught in the Act (CITA), Megan spent a great deal of time giving to those who might need a little boost and showing others that the world really can be changed with great acts of love.
Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones. Megan’s legacy of kindness will continue to inspire us all for years to come.
