In April of this year, Random Acts supporter Alicia Kim wrote to us requesting funding for an upcoming humanitarian trip to Yamaranguila, Honduras, where she and a group of dentists, hygienists, and volunteers from Medical Teams International would be providing free restorative and surgical dental procedures to some 250 local schoolchildren and residents. Happy to help, Random Acts was able to provide financing for some of the dental supplies used during the group’s trip, which Alicia explained was both successful and educational, not only for the children, but for the prospective dental student herself.
“My main duties were to assist chair-side and oversee equipment rotation, and I spent my evening hours with the local staff and their respective families,” wrote Alicia, who added that she was “blown away by their hospitality.”
After sharing with the local teams Random Acts’ mission and upcoming destination project in Nicaragua, she explained, it was time to head home — but hopefully not for too long.
“We formed great friendships despite my short stay,” she said. “I’m excited by the thought of going back to Yamaranguila some day.”
